| Rewind time by about two months
and you would meet Jon Dotson, an almost-thirtysomething resident of
Vista, California. Active in all motorsports, including a huge
contribution as a worker-volunteer at the All Mazda Nationals in
October, 2003, Jon made his living working on 18-wheel show trucks and
on his off days could be found in the desert riding his bike... until
one particular day when a man-made trench hidden by a berm caught the
wheel of Jon's bike and sent him careening across the desert floor. |
| A military chopper brought him into a
hospital in Glamis and an additional LifeFlight took him to
UCSD hospital, where he
would eventually have surgery. Jon's transfer to
Sharps Rehabilitation gave him enough
skills to navigate in a wheelchair and take care of some very basic life
skills. |
| Jon and his twin David and family are
known in more than their hometown. Jon is a car nut extraordinaire and much
of his recovery has been spent reading car magazines (including
MazdaSport
Magazine), working on model cars, and reading hundreds of notes from
well-wishers. Jon has been grateful for all efforts on his behalf which have
gone a long way towards his hand-controlled van. He is looking forward to
joining all of us at Raging Mazdas. Our goal for this event is to buy
Jon a "standing" unit, which allows paralyzed folks the opportunity to
"stand" and get circulation to their legs. |
